We had dancing. We had singing. We had each other.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd looking back, those simple nights became some of the richest memories of my childhood.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs I grew older—and especially after serving in the military—I learned that women are often given a very different message.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt some point, we're expected to \u003cem\u003egrow up\u003c\/em\u003e. But it's also a tiny piece of my childhood. It's Friday nights dancing with my family. It's a reminder of my Mama. It's the woman I became after having experiences that required me to be strong.
